Next successfully completed the new KFC store in Lidcombe, which was designed to meet environmentally sustainable design requirements. This is the second KFC store in Australia to feature design initiatives such as LED lighting, low VOC finishes, water recycling and conservation measures.
The KFC chain has set target goals to establish all new company restaurant building designs as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifiable from 2015. LEED is a green building certification program, which advocates the best strategies and practices in building, seeks to ensure a positive impact on the environment and building occupants. The first Australian store certified to LEED standards was opened in 2012 in East Maitland.
Next demolished the existing building on the Lidcombe site and constructed the new environmentally sustainable design on a fast construction program of 12 weeks. The new store featured detailed joinery, timber cladding and Alucabond façade treatment. Next also installed a new commercial kitchen and external landscaping.
Next was able to accelerate the construction program to mitigate lost time because of latent conditions and achieved practical completion in time for the Christmas holiday period.
